Alpha in Prisons
The Alpha Course is now running in over 30 prisons in the US. In
the UK, 120 of the 158 prisons are now running Alpha. In June 2000,
the Rt. Hon. Paul Boateng, the UK's Deputy Home Secretary, said,
'Alpha is making a valuable contribution to the spiritual life of
our prisons and has helped many make the change to a new life free
of crime and drugs.
Many prison
Chaplains report with astonishment that prisoners who start Alpha
as atheists, become Christians by the end. It's having an extraordinary
impact on the lives of inmates, their families and friends. Prison
officers are also getting increasingly involved with the course.
Charles W. Colson,
Founder of Prison Fellowship Ministries has said: “I know
of many people whose lives have been transformed through the Alpha
Course. I rejoice at how God is using it so powerfully to renew
many churches both inside and outside prison walls.”
