An Alpha Advisor is an experienced Alpha leader who helps start new Alpha courses and supports existing courses. All are passionate about The Alpha Course as a way to transform lives. Pastor Bill recently moved to Long Beach to lead a church plant called Long Beach City Church. Prior to this, he served as Outreach Pastor at Emmanuel Reformed Church in Paramount where he led Alpha three times a year since 1999. Bill's favorite part of Alpha is seeing brand new people connect to God for the first time and for "that light" to go on. Bill has seen hundreds of people come to faith through Alpha and loves sharing the vision for what God does through Alpha with other churches.
Jennifer Alt is the Director of Philanthropy for the SGL Group working on behalf of the Segel family with charities and organizations around the globe. Prior to her work with the Segel’s, Jen was on staff with Alpha International and Alpha USA. She has also been involved with planting missional church communities in So. Cal. and has been involved with multiple Alpha Courses around the world and locally.
Rev. Ger Jones is the Lead Pastor for Vintage Church in west Los Angeles. Originally from England, he started out as a corporate lawyer in London, before moving into brand management in Switzerland. In 2004 he felt God call him to full-time ministry. Ger has extensive experience with launching and leading Alpha Courses in many different contexts and churches. He first discovered Alpha at Holy Trinity Brompton in London where he became an active member of the church and Alpha leader. He has since run Alpha in 5 different countries. Ger loves to launch new Alpha Courses and is now using The Alpha Course as the engine for building Vintage church.
Tamara has been employed by the Walt Disney Animation Studios for sixteen years and manages a team of designers who work on exhibitions, theme park installations, books and a variety of other creative projects. Tamara first began volunteering with Alpha in 2003 at Lake Avenue Church in Pasadena as a facilitator. Upon attending her first Alpha Conference, Tamara felt compelled to start an Alpha in the Workplace (AiW) course at Walt Disney Studios. Since 2005, Tamara and her friend Kathy Hollimon have led several AiW and God at Work courses throughout the Walt Disney Company campuses in the Burbank / Glendale area. Both have trained church leaders and laity on starting an Alpha course or Alpha in the Workplace course, and continue to coach others in starting Alpha courses and basic evangelism practices. Tamara is also currently working towards a Masters of Theology and Film at Fuller Seminary.
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY
Jim and Della have been married for 21 years and have been a part of Santa Barbara Community Church (SBCC) since 1985. They have hosted and run The Alpha Course in a small group setting since 2003, usually running 2 Alpha courses a year. They have hosted several Alpha groups in their home over the years. Jim and Della both understand the importance of relationship in evangelism - both relationship with God and relationship with others. They have three boys, Reed, David and Jason. Jim owns his own business as a Finish Contractor. Della works part time with his crew doing carpentry.
Terry & Lorie Paulson have been married for 35 years and have been active members of New Hope Lutheran Church in Agoura Hills since 1982. They have hosted Alpha groups since 2001. Terry, Lorie, Pastor Craig Beeker and the leaders of our numerous Alpha groups realize that Alpha is the best outreach program to focus on our mission beyond the walls of our church. Their son, Sean Paulson, is a pastor in Copperopolis, CA, giving them four wonderful, God-committed grandchildren. Terry is an author, op-ed columnist, and an award-winning speaker on leveraging optimism to make change work for business leaders. Lorie runs the business and keeps him humble! They were both mentored and helped in starting their Alpha program and are ready to help others do the same.
About 11 years ago, Mark came back to the Lord through attending an Alpha course at Stonebridge Community Church in Simi Valley. Through that experience, they fell in love with Alpha and took on the leadership for the course at StoneBridge so others would have the same opportunity to explore their faith. Since then they haven't stopped and are just starting their 31st Alpha course in their home! They have great enthusaiasm for Alpha, tons of experience and are willing to help anyone get started with Alpha. They would be more than happy for you to sit in on their course to see how it works firsthand.
SAN GABRIEL VALLEY
Rev. Roger Bosch is the Pastor of Missions, Evangelism and Community Outreach at Lake Avenue Congregational Church in Pasadena, where he has been serving since 1993. He has been running Alpha at Lake Avenue for the past 9 years and over that time has lead more than 26 courses. These courses have been held in a variety of locations including college campuses, local neighborhoods, inside the church, as well as in the marketplace. Roger says about his experience with Alpha, "God has used Alpha to bring many to faith in Christ and to lead many others into a deeper and richer relationship with Him."
SAN FERNANDO VALLEY
Rand Reasoner is Sr. Pastor at Prince of Peace Episcopal Church in Woodland Hills. This church was one of the early Alpha churches in Los Angeles launching their first Alpha in 1997 and have run more than 30 courses. Alpha is fully integrated into the DNA of the Church and an essential tool for newcomer incorporation and evangelism.
Dr. Gilbert oversaw the Alpha Course, as the Assistant Pastor of Newhills Parish Church (Church of Scotland) in the early 90s. He experienced the life-changing power that Alpha brought to many of the members and seekers in the Aberdeen area. Dr. Gilbert believed in Alpha so much, that Newhills Parish Church became the regional training center for Alpha in the Aberdeen area. He carried the Alpha Course with him back to the USA and implemented it in his previous church in Virginia and now at St.Stephen's Presbyerian Church, Chatsworth.
Virginia has been leading Alpha at Mission Lutheran Church in Laguna Niguel for over 10 years, overseeing more than 20 courses. She is passionate about Alpha having seen the impact it has in guiding people to Christ and strengthening the faith of many others in their church. Virgina enjoys mentoring and supporting other church leaders to get started with the Alpha course. She and her husband Rich live in Laguna Niguel and have two married children.
Pastor Marti Clark has been an Alpha Advisor since 1998. She has run Alpha courses in her home and in various churches, beginning with the Vineyard Anaheim where she served as a Pastor of Outreach and Enfolding. Later she was appointed as an Alpha Regional Director for Southern California and served in that role until she retired at the end of 2010. Marti and her husband Roger live in Huntington Beach CA.
Gayla Totaro's Christian faith catapulted after leading a table on her first Alpha course. Gayla was on staff of Grace Lutheran Church in Huntington Beach for nine years. Her first five years were as the Director of Discipleship, where one of her major responsibilities was Administrating the Alpha Course. She has since administered 24 Alpha courses at Grace Lutheran and continues to see the powerful hand of God in this movement. She is an active volunteer with the Alpha SoCal Office and looks forward to assisting churches in running the Alpha course.
