Does Alpha Have a Statement of Faith or Doctrinal Statement?
The Apostles Creed and Nicene Creed could be viewed as Alpha’s “doctrinal statement”.
The nearest thing to a “statement of beliefs” is the curriculum of the course, Nicky Gumbel's book Questions of Life. We suggest this as an ideal starting point for exploring the course and its contents.
God has used the Alpha Course to bring millions of people into a living relationship with Christ. In 1990, when former lawyer Nicky Gumbel took over the course, he adapted it and made it more welcoming and suitable for non-churchgoers.
Nicky sent the Alpha course content to representatives of 44 denominations to see if they had disagreements with the material. None asked that anything be removed - although a few asked that some of their particular denominational materials be added - it wasn't because the Alpha course is designed so that it can be used as widely as possible.
All the major Christian denominations are using Alpha, which clearly reflects Alpha does indeed encompass the core elements of the Christian faith.
