Helpful Hints

Before you begin, we recommend you attend a local Alpha training or a two-day conference. This will help you to understand the DNA of Alpha and to get all the resources you need, plus answer any questions you may have. If there isn't any training in your area coming up please contact us and we can connect you to someone who can help. Basic training can occur by registering for and watching our Campus training videos We advise that every leader be required to watch these training videos.
Become a Recognized Club on Your Campus
|
One strategy of running an Alpha course on campus is to work through an already existing Campus Ministry or become a recognized Alpha "club." This is not meant to be a substitute to an already existing ministry to the campus (i.e. Cru, Inter-Varsity, Chi Alpha, BCM, etc.) but only to have direct access to students, rooms, funds, etc. to run an Alpha Course. Please read the article Launching an Alpha group on campus to find out how.
The most lives are changed at courses where the leaders make prayer a key ingredient to their course. Alpha cannot be run without prayer! Here are some ways you can bring prayer into your course:
Recruit a group willing to pray regularly for your Alpha course. Appoint someone on your team pray and keep others informed with regular updates, prayer points and encouragements.
Organize a special Alpha Prayer and Worship event or join with other churches or campus ministries to do this and use it as an opportunity to share unity while interceding for the wider campus community.
- 24-7 Prayer

Many churches and campus ministries organize a weekend or even a whole week of 24-7 (night & day) prayer during, or in the build-up, to an Alpha course. Find out how to do this practically, along with a wealth of other resources, by checking out our friends at 24-7 Prayer.
Let us know how to pray for you by visiting our Alpha Prayer page.
