Alpha for the Military Prayer Diary 

August-December, 2009

Day 1: Marines from Camp Pendelton did 5 new Alpha courses

Chaplain Douglas____trained his ten lay leaders by experiencing Alpha together with them in the training days before his battalion of Marines deployed last November. He reports, “Thank you for your continued prayers.  The ministry has been wonderful and God has touched many lives. We keep the Alpha groups going but have limited them to 5.   Many Marines and Sailors are enjoying the studies and have grown spiritually.”  Pray that God will continue to bless these young Marines and Sailors as they explore the meaning of life, look more closely at their identity in Christ and at the direction of their life purpose.

“In that day of crisis, no weapon turned against you will succeed...This is the blessing I have given you,” says the Lord. Isaiah 54:17

Day 2: Pray for military presence

Each year Alpha USA holds one national conference at which Alpha Founder, Nicky Gumbel speaks. Reaching just over 1,300 delegates, the 2009 National Alpha Conference was held October 20-21 at the Northland Church in Longwood, FL a suburb of Orlando (http://www.northlandchurch.net/). There was A4M workshops for anyone doing Alpha in a Military setting.  Pray for all who attended.  Lift up this great potential for the spiritual future of our Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Airmen and women, and Coastguard; that this will infuse new courage,  new perspective,  a new sense of His presence in these difficult times and the arduous task these men and women have been called to. Pray for A4M Staff, Regional Leaders team and the network of leaders who will support the follow-up of this conference in every way possible.

Day 3: Bear Grylls Live!

Yes, the host of Discovery Channel’s “Man vs. Wild,” mountaineer, international speaker,  best selling author, former Special Forces Soldier of the British Army sat down with Alpha’s Nicky Gumbel on October 21, 7 p.m. to talk about his TV adventures, life and his faith at this special event held after the National Alpha Conference.This special outreach event encouraged everyone who attended! Bear is an enthusiastic supporter of Alpha and made several clips for Alpha’s use. See one a click here. Pray for an anointing of the Holy Spirit for all who attended this occasion as Bear shared his heart and his faith as well as his exploits; that many will have the eyes of their hearts opened to really see the difference God can make in their own lives with their abilities and spiritual gifts.

“If anyone publicly acknowledges me as his friend, I will openly acknowledge him as My friend before My Father in heaven.” Matthew10:32

Day 4: US Coast Guard Air Station, Kodiak, AK

Lt. George__ and his wife, Gretchen, have a heart and passion for Alpha as they experienced it for seven years in the Bay Area of California. Chaplain Carl _____has been very enthusiastic. The Chapel Council even made a donation to A4M, “to help provide military chaplains including Navy Chaplains serving in the USG with Alpha resource kits.” Several families have expressed interest.   However, Lt. George’s  flying schedule  has increased  significantly  since this  decision was made and they have discovered their fourth little one is due the end of August. They still have dreams of an early Sunday morning Alpha.   Pray for a break through for Lt George and his wife; someone with Alpha experience to come alongside of them in the new beginnings of this Coast Guard Alpha; that the Holy Spirit’s timing will be revealed so that those hearts He has been calling to will be able to come home; that they may be renewed, healed, opened to new horizons of service and commitment to Jesus Christ.
