What is the best way to "wrap up" a small group?

There are a few different approaches to this question.  Here are a few suggestions:

1.  In keeping with the Alpha training, it is really important to respect the time frame and end at the stated time.  So, if your small group is really heating up and it is one minute before the designated ending time for your small group, we would suggest that you respect this and write down the questions in order to pick the discussion up next week.  Note: for authenticity, you really must follow up on this question the next week.

2.  Some leaders find it helpful to take the last few minutes of the small group time and provide a simple summary of what has been discussed that evening in the small group.  This can be a way to provide a sense of closure and validate the input of others in the group.

3.  If someone in your group seems to really be struggling with an issue or question and it is apparent that asking them to wait until next week would not be wise, then make sure that you bring the small group to a closing point so people can leave if they want to, but then make yourself available to that person after the small group time.  Quite often at Holy Trinity Brompton, the whole small group goes out for a drink together and there is a natural continuation of the conversation that happens in that context.
