What Am I Doing Here? 703

I received an, "Registered payment card nearing expiry on www.alphaconferences.org" email. Is this legitimate? What should I do?

The Wallet function on this website stores information about credit cards you have used like the expiration date.  Reminders are sent out when those stored cards are about to expire even if you don't have any outstanding or upcoming payments.  So this could be a legitimate email.

The message may look something like this:

One of your registered payment cards is nearing expiry.

Card: My Card
Card type: VISA
Card number: xxxxxxxxxxxx1234
Expiry date: end of December 2006
Currently used to pay for: 2006 Conference Registration

In order to continue your subscription to these groups, you must change your payment method to another payment card. Please follow the link below to update your details:

http://www.alphaconferences.org

You will need to login (using your username and password), and then goto the My Area --> My Account --> My Wallet page to update your card information.

If the item listed under "Currently used to pay for:" is completely paid and or the past then there is no need to take any action.  If you do want to take action go to the My Area --> My Account --> My Wallet of this site.

It is still a good idea to be suspicious of emails regarding your credit card information.  Do not click on links inside the email instead go directly to the site by typing the address in your browser manually. You can call Alpha USA directly at 888-949-2574 if you receive an email from us and want to know if it is legitimate.
